Read the sentence slowly: “All such wealth should be restored to those who have thus been robbed or to their children and their children’s children.” That is restitution across generations — what the modern world calls reparations — stated as a spiritual requirement, not a policy proposal. The text does not hedge it with feasibility studies. It treats the return of stolen wealth as a condition of moral sanity: while the theft stands unrepaired, the civilization built on it cannot endure.
The laborer and the hire
The closing line reaches back to an ancient standard — the laborer defrauded of his hire — and makes it the load-bearing test of civilization itself.
